Boost Your Chances For Finding Love This Summer!

Boost Your Chances For Finding Love This Summer!

Our relationship expert Dr Pam Spurr (On Twitter & Instagram @drpamspurr) shares her best tips to find romance this summer.

Traditionally summer is the time that singles, who want to stay unattached, report having the most fun. A full 70% say it is the best time of year to be out and about on the dating scene.

However, other relationship research found that 2/3s of people who coupled-up, did so during the summer months. This is great news if you're a single that hopes to settle down over the summer.

What is absolutely crucial, is developing the right mindset and attitude in the coming weeks while the weather is hot and there are lots of opportunities to get out to meet people.

Here are five fab tips for ‘summer-love’ success:

Be yourself – but your best possible self

All the research shows that your fellow singles can tell when you're being a fake. And fakeness isn't attractive. What's important is finding the balance between being your real self and also putting your best foot forward as the saying goes.

Let's say you tend to take over conversations with your friends and family. You're known as the loudmouth of the group. That's great for the people who already know and love you. With someone new, though, you need to give them a chance so simply put on the brakes that “loud mouth” of yours. Strike a balance between giving them all your opinions when you first meet and not saying anything.

Learn to say ‘yes’!

Now is the time to say yes to even the smallest kinds of invitations like joining a group of friends at a pub or grabbing coffee with workmates. Of course, dating apps like Wingman are fantastic because you can go on them 24/7 and try to find your match. However, spread your wings and meet up with people IRL too. This maximises the possibilities of meeting other like-minded singles.

It's too easy to think: it’s a bit hot, I'll miss out on this event or that event. That is not the right mindset!

Know your mind

One surprising result from a survey found that people are attracted to those who know their own mind. Those who know their likes and dislikes and how they like to spend their free time.

So if you meet someone new and they would like to meet up, suggest a place that you like. Or suggest an activity that you like. Saying things like: you choose where we meet is seen as a bit of a pain and puts all the pressure on them.

Dump any body image worries -

Summer fashions tend to reveal more and trust me this worries men as well as women. People fret about showing more of their bodies than they normally do.

What's important is feeling comfortable in the heat, wearing something you feels flatters to you and then taking a relaxed attitude about any lumps and bumps that are on display in summer fashion.

Being confident in yourself and feeling good in what you're wearing will give off the right vibe.

Put the spotlight on them -

Frequently due to nerves people get wrapped up and how anxious they feel and forget about putting the person they're talking to at their ease. The best way to deal with your own nerves is to turn the spotlight on them and ask them questions.

They can be really simple questions about things like how they know the person who's birthday party you’re both at. Or ask them if they're watching the latest box set that you've really enjoyed, etc.

Once you're both at your ease, conversations naturally drift to more natural areas. It's getting convos kickstarted, by letting that person know you're interested in them, that is crucial.

Equally, if you turn the spotlight on them and then discover that they are the sort of person who is happy commanding the spotlight, make sure you get in some of your points and experiences!

Finally, just have fun. When you’re having fun it’s a very attractive quality.
